Event Description
Third Coast Percussion presents three Ligeti works: the super virtuosic Continuum; a whimsical song cycle; and Poème Symphonique, the “spectacle” for 100 mechanical metronomes, produced here with UChicago students. Pulitzer Prize-finalist Christopher Cerrone takes Ligeti’s work as a point of departure, creating beautiful, haunting melodies interspersed with dramatic, lightning fast rhythms that swirl around the room.
6:30 PM pre-concert lecture with Jennifer Iverson.
There will be a post-concert talkback on stage with Third Coast Percussion, poet G. C. Waldrep, composer Christopher Cerrone, and Steven Rings, discussing Waldrep’s work and his collaboration with Cerrone and TCP.
