Imani Winds offers a concert program to honor and inspire: Frederic Rzewsk’s work is dedicated to the memory and legacy of John Hope Franklin, the distinguished scholar of African-American history who taught at UChicago; Vijay Iyer’s piece was partially influenced by the Trayvon Martin incident; recent Pulitzer Prize winner Henry Threadgill’s new work reflects his time in Chicago and a civil rights theme.
