2017

Event Description

Since 2014 Fulcrum Point has developed and promoted emerging composers in a free, public setting through their ongoing series, Discoveries: Hear and Be Heard. The event is simultaneously a concert featuring young and emerging composers, a dialogue and workshop, and a reception with wine and cheese. In addition to enjoying new music, the audience learns about the composer’s inspirations and creative processes and is able to actively engage with the artists by offering impressions and feedback.

Featured Composers:

“Notturno” by Lawren Brianna Ware

“Trumpet Sonata” by Elaine Fine

Featuring Stephen Burns on trumpet and Kuang-Hao Huang on piano.

Program Notes:

“Trumpet Sonata”

“I wrote my Trumpet Sonata in 2000. I had just begun a master’s program, and was studying composition for the first time. Before moving to more abstract music, I wanted to feel comfortable writing in Sonata Form, and was surprised to find how easy and enjoyable it was to write in Sonata Form using mid-20th-century harmonies.”
