Event Description

rhythm is image (Hannah Barnes and Christopher Jones, co-directors) presents a musical assemblage for one, two, or three people playing violin, electric guitar, paper, and a game for this Ear Taxi Festival Spotlight Concert.

Performed by Hannah Spear (violin), Jesse Langen (electric guitar), and directors, Hannah Barnes and Christopher Wendell Jones, this program of works by Kotoka Suzuki, David Bithell, Dai Fujikura, Rebecca Saunders, and world premieres by Barnes and Jones, explores sound as a tactile phenomenon.

rhythm is image is a new, Chicago-based contemporary music initiative co-directed by composer-performers Hannah Barnes and Christopher Jones. We explore the intersection of sound, medium and concept in music. Our work focuses on provocative music that originates locally, nationally, and internationally. We are fascinated by the interconnection between composers of different cultures and perspectives, and particularly the way artists reach across boundaries to find unique modes of expression.

rhythm is image was founded by Hannah Barnes as a nascent new music project, called Purposeless Play, at DePaul University.
