2017

Event Description

Now in its 12th year, ACM’s Sound of Silent Film festival returns to the Music Box Theater with an all-new program of eight modern silent films with newly commissioned scores performed live.

Notable films in this year’s festival include Stacey Steers’ stunning Edge of Alchemy, Martin Pickles’ homage to French film pioneer Georges Méliès, recently made famous in Scorsese’s film Hugo, and Jasper Lee’s timely Deja Vu Deluge about the clash of civilizations during the Spanish Conquest of South America.

“Of all the art forms, music takes the shortest route to the heart, and this is especially true of live music,” says acclaimed Canadian filmmaker, and SOSF 2011 alumnus Guy Maddin. “Something truly alchemical happens when film gets a live score. The Sound of Silent Film Festival is indispensable.”
