Annabel Punzel, composer & vocalist

Annabel Punzel is a 22-year-old composer based in Chicago whose music lives at the intersection of classical elegance and imaginative eccentricity. Known for her vivid rhythms, colorful textures, and delightfully unpredictable harmonic turns, she draws inspiration from the shimmering hues of French Impressionism, as well as from folk melodies, rock grooves, and jazz-inflected harmonies—creating a sonic world that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new. A student of composition and music theory at Elmhurst University, Annabel is deeply engaged in both performance and pedagogy. During her time at Elmhurst, she collaborated with the Elmhurst University Wind Ensemble on the inaugural Malambo Composition Competition, where her piece “Dust Devils” was awarded first prize. Her music has since been performed across the Midwest, most recently at the Young Naperville Singers’ 2025 Spring Choral Concert, Open Hands, where her choral piece “Letting You Go” was praised for its emotional resonance and distinctive voice. In addition to composing, Annabel is a passionate educator. She tutors music theory at both Elmhurst University and Spirito Singers, where she helps young musicians explore the structure and story of music with both clarity and creativity. With each new piece, she seeks to invite listeners into a world that is curious, whimsical, and rich with color and feeling.
